The ARCHITECTURE of BONES and RUGS
An exhibition of Pen and Ink Drawings and Painted Rug Designs
by South American artist COLIN ABBYSSINIAN CARTO
February 8 - thru - March, 2012
* Opening Reception on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11 at 6:00 - 9:00 pm *
South American artist Colin Abbyssinian Carto
deconstructs the architecture of form, structure, and design in this complementary set of two distinct bodies of
work. Through a series of incredibly detailed skeletal drawings and intricate
painted tapestry
"rugs", Carto probes the
fundamental building blocks (or "bones") that create the complex
elements of design. See the artist's statement
about this series. Mr. Carto was born in Guyana and recieved a Bachelors
degree in Fine Art in Textile Design from the Fashion Institute of
Technology in New York city. He has exhibited
in Guyana, Barbados, and Trinindad, and currently resides
and works in
Brooklyn, NY.
Come meet the artist and discuss his work at the Opening Reception on Saturday, February 11, from 6 - 9 pm.
